As patients begin to plan for their facelift surgery, one of the most important items on their to-do list is booking time off work for recovery. However, many men and women aren’t certain how long they’ll need to be off work and when they’ll feel well enough to be able to resume their normal activities confidently. AT VIP Plastic Surgery in Las Vegas, NV, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher Khorsandi understands how important it is to minimize time away from work while ensuring patients are healthy and confident enough to return to work and social engagements. Keep scrolling to find helpful tips for enjoying a smooth, speedy, and efficient facelift recovery, and learn more about how long the average facelift patient may need to take off work.

What to know before facelift surgery

Patients considering facelift surgery should have a good understanding of how to prepare for the procedure, how a facelift is performed, their options for facelift surgery, and what to expect during facelift recovery. All of this information (and more) will be covered during a thorough initial consultation for facelift surgery, at which time Dr. Khorsandi will also evaluate the patient’s concerns and determine if they may be a good candidate for the procedure.

Which kind of facelift do I need?

Based on your specific signs and symptoms of facial aging, Dr. Khorsandi may recommend one or more of the following facial rejuvenation procedures:

How long is recovery after a facelift?

The length of a facelift recovery will vary based on the type of facelift that was performed, the patient’s overall health, and other personal and individual factors. On average, patients typically need about two weeks off work after a full facelift, though residual swelling and bruising may remain for up to six weeks or longer. For this reason, some men and women choose to take additional time off work or work remotely, particularly if they are self-conscious about post-facelift bruising or if their job requires them to be on camera or highly visible. Even after returning to work, patients may need to restrict their normal physical activities – like exercise – for up to 4 – 6 weeks or until cleared by Dr. Khorsandi. Light walking and low-impact fitness regimens are typically safe and encouraged during facelift recovery.

Will I have scars after facelift surgery?

Facelift incisions are typically placed behind the ears, within the hairline, and in other locations where they easily blend in with the natural lines of the face. Once healed, facelift scars are usually very light, white, or skin-colored, small, and thin, helping to further minimize their appearance. For the majority of patients, facelift scars are imperceptible to others – and sometimes even to the patient.
