Overview

Intense pulsed light photo rejuvenation facials are a cosmetic treatment that prompts the skin to regenerate by destroying the upper layer of the skin with severe discolorations, sunspots, and rough texture from long-term sun exposure. Anyone who is often exposed to UV rays, either from the sun or tanning beds, without protection can develop premature signs of aging. For patients in the Las Vegas area, an IPL photo rejuvenation facial at VIP Plastic Surgery by plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher Khorsandi will prompt new skin growth to improve and rejuvenate the appearance. IPL facials can also reduce or eliminate mild acne scars and other skin irregularities. IPL facials are most often used to treat the face area, but the neck, chest, and hands are also treatable areas.

Our IPL Technologies

Dr. Khorsandi is proud to offer the Venus Versa IPL system, as well as Inmode Lumecca. Both technologies are advanced systems that produce excellent outcomes for patients of varying skin types. During the initial consultation, which will include a thorough skin assessment, Dr. Khorsandi will recommend the appropriate device based on your specific needs, including the condition of your skin, the area being treated, as well as the desired outcome the patient hopes to achieve.

  • Venus Versa IPL

The Venus Versa IPL system includes the innovative SmartPulse technology, delivered through the handheld applicators to ensure precise and accurate energy delivery of pulsed light. Selectively filtered and delivered into the skin, the Venus Versa IPL system targets chromophores, which are oxyhemoglobins for melanin and vascular lesions in the skin. Studies have shown that Venus IPL delivers 1.5 times more energy than many of the existing competitors on the market and while the heat works to disrupt collagen and correct surface imperfections, the built-in, real-time cooling system constantly monitors the temperature for unparalleled patient comfort and safety.

  • Lumecca IPL by Inmode

Lumecca is another breakthrough IPL technology that effectively treats skin pigmentation, vascular redness, and skin damage related to the sun (such as poor texture, complexion, lesions, and freckles). Lumecca delivers up to 3X more energy in the 500-600 nm range to improve efficacy for a softer, smoother, vibrant outcome. Dr. Khorsandi uses the Lumecca to treat the most common areas that are exposed to the sun on a regular basis, such as the face, neck, chest, legs, and hands.

Photo rejuvenation using IPL is a noninvasive procedure that uses pulses of light that are strong enough to damage skin lesions and initiate a healing process to start production of new skin tissues. Both of our in-house IPL technologies are approved by the FDA and safe and effective to use on the face, neck, and chest.

What to Expect

When undergoing IPL treatment, cold gel is applied on the skin to help with any discomfort. The eyes are also protected from the intense light. During the treatment, the handheld applicator is gently glided over the skin to treat the targeted areas. There may be discomfort during treatment and pain may be present but tolerable — similar to a slight sting of a rubber band snap. The treatment generally lasts less than 30 minutes as extended exposure to the laser may cause complications. Patients are able to return to their normal routine after the treatment is over, but it's important to note that the skin may appear reddish with slight swelling and blotchiness. This normally disappears after a few hours. It is very important to adhere to our post-treatment advise when it comes to care. Several IPL sessions are usually recommended spaced every three weeks. The results are gradual and optimal results may be seen after a few months.

Expected Cost

IPL Photo Rejuvenation FAQs

Immediate Results?

Improvements are noticeable even after the initial treatment but optimal results may be evident after several months. The positive results of this laser treatment are gradual as the skin must be given time to heal to avoid any complications of an aggressive approach. There is no standard recovery time as patient’s condition can greatly vary.

Temporary Side Effects?

Side effects are mild. Redness, swelling, bruising are normal right after treatment. After a few days, blisters and crusting and skin peeling may be present. The patient must not pick on the skin as it is undergoing a normal process as it heals itself.

Pre-Treatment Prep?

It is recommended for patients who are scheduled for an IPL photo treatment to refrain from tanners and exposure to sun a month prior to schedule. There are also medications that must be avoided such as minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline, or Retin-A/Renova a few weeks before schedule. These precautions minimize any risks of complications and reactions the laser light may cause. To help prevent bruising and excessive swelling, patients may be required to take aspirin and Ibuprofen a week before treatment.

Sun Exposure?

Although patients will not be as sensitive to sun exposure as one might think after undergoing the IPL, going out under the sun must be a limited activity especially in between treatments. Doing so may significantly affect the outcome and may cause complications. Sunblock must be regularly applied. This also helps in minimizing possible recurring skin issues like sun spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer.

Single Session Only?

A single session can’t last more than 30 minutes as extended exposure to IPL may be risky to the patient. An aggressive approach may bring negative effects instead of correcting skin irregularities. Several sessions are spread between at least a week so the resurfacing is gradual and results are longer term as the skin heals naturally.
