One Face Does Not Fit All--Understanding The Different Types Of Facelifts
5/14/2019
There are different facelift options available based on facial anatomy, a patient’s aesthetic goals, and to what degree of invasiveness is needed to achieve that goal. Facelifts, especially in years past, were typically reserved for older adults as a cosmetic procedure to remove the visible signs of aging. Today, more younger individuals in the Las Vegas area are looking into this customizable approach that can tighten loose skin, remove wrinkles, and lift certain areas of the face to help patients look younger. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Christopher Khorsandi, wants to help patients get some helpful information on the different types of facelift options available at VIP Plastic Surgery in Las Vegas in order to tailor the experience to what they need to look and feel younger!
Considering a facelift?
Do you feel like you look tired all the time? Are you beginning to notice facial sagging, static wrinkles, and just an overall older look to your appearance? A facelift can be a transforming, long-term solution to the visible signs of aging. Since everyone’s skin ages at a different pace and every patient generally has different needs to consider, the facelift process can be customized with your plastic surgeon. Some patients may need to address the lower portion of their face only while some patients may need a full facelift. Either way there are different options that Dr. Khorsandi offers so let’s take a look at each one and see which one may be right for you.
A customized approach
With today’s medical advancements in plastic surgery, there are many options available to customize a patient’s facial rejuvenation experience to either a specific area or the entire face. So which facelift is right for you and why? Dr. Khorsandi wants to break it out down for Las Vegas patients so they can know their options.
Full facelift
A full or traditional facelift enhances and tightens a patient’s entire face from their forehead to their neck. It can target several aspects of the face and neck all at once, while tightening a patient’s underlying muscular structure. It is the most in-depth surgical procedure of all the facelift options, using a larger incision made in the hairline usually from ear to ear. Excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is gently pulled tight to allow for a natural, younger-looking result. Depending on patient’s age, condition of their skin, and what they want for the end goal, this facelift procedure can be combined with other cosmetic surgeries, as well as compliment the end results with non-invasive enhancements such as dermal fillers, BOTOX or laser treatments once a patient has recovered.
Mid-Face Lift
If a board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Khorsandi, determines that a traditional facelift may not be necessary, then another facelift alternative is a mid-face lift. This facelift procedure targets the middle area of the face and is a popular choice for Las Vegas patients in their 40s or 50s trying to fight the signs of aging. The areas lifted and rejuvenated with this facelift are the jowl and cheek areas as well as softening the appearance of creases around the eyes or mouth. Small incisions are made behind the temple area in order to tighten loose skin and reduce the appearance of static wrinkles. A mid-face lift is a less invasive surgical option for patients who do not need a full facelift to look younger.
Brow Lift
A brow lift, or forehead lift, can dramatically reduce wrinkles or deep lines along the forehead area. When patients are no longer seeing results with non-invasive options like dermal fillers or BOTOX then they can turn to this facelift option to improve the appearance of the upper portion of their face. Depending on what your plastic surgeon prefers, incisions can be made at the temporal areas of the face or along the forehead in the natural crease of the brow. Skin is then tightened and gently pulled upward to give patients a more “awake” and softer appearance.
Neck Lift
A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that can help restore a patient’s lower jowl area and neck. Removing excess, sagging skin on the neck or underneath the chin area can help redefine a patient’s profile and give them a more youthful appearance. Excess fatty tissue, using liposuction, can also be removed in the neck muscle band on either the front or back to help contour the neck. A lower rhytidectomy is one of the most transforming lifts for patients, outside of an eye lift, giving patients dramatic results.
Eyelid Lift
An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin on the upper eyelid area. It can even reduce puffiness and the appearance of “bags” under the eyes. The eyelid area is already predisposed to “thin skin” so when patients loses elasticity, with the natural process of aging, the eyelids are one of the first areas affected. Tightening the skin or removing wrinkles around the eye area can take years off a patient’s appearance making patients look more refreshed and younger!
