What is a septoplasty?

The septum is a critical structure within the nose made of tissue and bone to separate the two nasal passages and support airflow. Many men, women and children experience breathing issues when the bone and cartilage are not straight. For patients who suffer from a deviated septum, causing sleep apnea and snoring, our Las Vegas, NV board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Christopher Khorsandi, can perform septoplasty.  At VIP Plastic Surgery, septoplasty is a surgical procedure that repairs a deviated septum to improve airflow and produce a natural-looking nose.

Surgical Technique

During septoplasty surgery, the deviated septum structure is reshaped through an incision made inside the nose. The surgeon will lift and separate the septum tissue to fully access the misaligned bone and cartilage. The surgeon will close the incision with sutures and place a splint inside the nose to align the septum as it heals. Some surgeons may use nose packing to help control bleeding.

Master of His Craft! - I can't praise VIP Surgery more. From their amazing receptionist Judith to Dr. Khorsandi. He is a phenomenal surgeon that truly cares for his patients. I came in unhappy with my profile & the shape of my broken nose. I wanted a natural beautiful outcome, nothing that stood out. He was kind, understanding & knowledgeable. He took the time to walk me through the procedure & the post-op. Surgery went great, he came prior to it to check on me & made me feel comfortable & safe. Everything happened as he had explained it would post-op. The final results are beyond my expectations! I couldn't be happier. My friends & family are amazed at how natural it all looks. I love that I still look like myself with some enhancements. I highly recommend him & his staff! He is a master of his craft!! Thank you so much! Treatment: Rhinoplasty & Septoplasty

Met with Dr. Khorsandi to discuss a revision rhino/septoplasty with turbinate reduction. That he would consider even meeting to discuss a revision rhinoplasty was encouraging.  During the consult, the 3D images of what my nose could look like were exciting, and Dr. Khorsandi’s bedside manners were second to none.  On Christmas Eve I had my surgery, and Dr. Khorsandi came in to the office on Christmas Day for my 24 hour post-op.  I literally kept asking his staff "are you SURE I have an appointment on Christmas Day???"  His work ethic and commitment to his patients is refreshing- no big ego, just a doc that loves what he does.  I’m now 3 weeks post-op, and beyond thrilled with the results.  My nose looks incredible, I don’t look like I’ve had a "nose job", it’s completely perfect for my face.  Could.not.be.happier!!!

I came to Dr. Khorsandi not once but TWICE! He does amazing work and only doc in Vegas I’d ever recommend to my friends. I came to him back in 2017 for my breast augmentation and it was the best procedure, and I knew exactly what I was getting before I even went under because he does imagery at his consultations. I went from a 34A to a 34 D, Almost 4 years later and they still look AMAZING! Now I just healed from my rhino/septoplasty that I had in February of this year and I can’t thank him enough for the confidence he’s given me, the nose really can change a face. My bf had so many questions during this procedure because he was taking care of me, and doc was super quick to respond to any texts or calls, so it put us both at ease, he is super professional. So happy with my decision to come to him and trust him with my both my face and body. If you’re looking for a sign to get your nose and breast done, this is it

During/After Surgery

As an outpatient procedure, septoplasty is performed in an accredited surgical facility under general anesthesia. The surgery typically takes between 1 and 2 hours. Recovery takes between 7 and 10 days. Patients should expect bruising and swelling under the eyes and around the nose immediately after the procedure. The final results will not set in for 3 months or longer after surgery.

Expected Cost

Because septoplasty is a customized procedure, the price depends on the physical needs of the patient. Pricing for this procedure typically starts at $6500; however, a portion of the cost can be covered by medical insurance. Patients are encouraged to ask about their insurance coverage to determine the final cost of the procedure.

Breathing Problems?

Even though septoplasty is used to correct breathing problems, some patients undergo septoplasty to correct medical issues from a deviated septum. However, a loss of cartilage or bone and cartilage grafting can change the appearance of the nose. Highly skilled surgeons with experience in septoplasty knows the technique needed to make natural and subtle changes.

Common Causes?

The most common cause of a deviated septum is birth trauma because most individuals are born with a deviated septum. As people age, the symptoms gradually worsen. Even though a majority of adults have a deviated septum, not everyone has severe symptoms that require surgery. Another common cause is trauma later in life.

Do I Need an ENT specialist?

Even though most ENT specialists are able to perform septoplasty, they do not have the skills to preserve the look and shape of the nose like plastic surgeons do. Patients should find a board-certified plastic surgeon that can perform both a septoplasty and rhinoplasty at the same time.
