What is a Thigh Lift?

Individuals who lose a significant amount of weight will sometimes consider skin removal surgery to address problem areas that exist as the result of the weight loss. The thighs, specifically, are an area that can be troublesome if excessive loose skin hangs on the outer and/or inner thighs. Dr. Christopher Khorsandi is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Las Vegas, NV, who is experienced in performing skin excision surgery for patients desiring tighter thighs.  A thigh lift, or thighplasty, trims the excess skin in targeted areas of the thighs and tightens the remaining underlying tissue and muscle to create a toned, taut appearance.

How is a Thigh Lift Performed?

Thighplasty is performed to enhance the looks of the inner thigh and/or outer thigh. It is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. The surgery takes an average of 2 – 3 hours to complete but could take longer if combined with another procedure. During a thigh lift, an incision will be made near the top of the thigh, along the crease where the torso meets the leg. A large amount of tissue will be removed from the top of the inner thigh area while the remaining skin is pulled up, tightened, and secured with sutures. This process reshapes the thighs, giving them a tighter, more contoured appearance.

Can a thigh Lift be Combined with Other Procedures?

A wide array of lower body contouring procedures can be combined with a thigh lift in order to create a tighter lower body. A thigh lift and a butt lift is a popular combination among our patients, especially those who are in need of an outer thigh lift. With this, the outer thighs are pulled up and tightened with an incision that is made along the bottom of the buttock area. An incision can also be made around the lower back. This allows the surgeon to address the upper thighs, buttocks, and hips in one surgery, which is commonly known as a lower body lift.

What Can I Expect After a Thigh Lift?

The recovery period after the surgery typically takes about 6 – 8 weeks. While scarring will be hidden in the natural crease of the body, proper scar care will still be needed for the scar to heal properly. Because this surgery is invasive, it is recommended that patients limit strenuous activities, such as exercise, until they are fully recovered. Patients may usually go back to a light routine about 3 – 4 weeks after surgery. Exercise should wait until about 6-8 weeks post-op. When all wounds have completely healed, patients may begin lower body moves, such as lunges or squats. Patients usually find that their self-confidence will improve once their body has completely healed and the enhanced contour of their thighs is noticeable. Virtual consultations are $100 and in-person consults $300 the consult fee goes towards the procedure they are non-refundable.

Thigh Lift FAQ

Will a thigh lift eliminate cellulite?

A thigh lift is generally the best choice to achieve nicely contoured and slimmer legs. Because the procedure calls for skin tightening and liposuction in cases of excessive fat deposits, it can also improve the appearance of cellulite or other skin irregularities on the upper legs.

How much does a thigh lift cost?

Thigh lift surgery costs an average of $8,000. This price will increase, however, if the procedure is combined with another lower body cosmetic procedure.

How long do results from a thigh lift last?

Patients who adhere to a healthy lifestyle that includes a proper diet and exercise routine will enjoy their surgical results for many years. It is important to keep in mind that pregnancy or any additional weight gain after this surgery could compromise the overall surgical effect. It is also advised that patients be at or near their goal weight before surgery to avoid weight fluctuations afterward.
