Overview

One of the most common cosmetic surgeries after a major weight loss is brachioplasty, sometimes referred to as an arm lift. It is a skin removal/skin tightening procedure that treats the underside of the upper arms by trimming loose skin, tightening the underlying tissues, and removing excess fat. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher Khorsandi offers arm lifts for patients throughout the Greater Las Vegas, NV area who desire a tighter, more toned arm appearance. During a significant weight loss, patients realize that the skin in some areas of the body doesn’t shrink as the body does. Loose, sagging skin is often the result. Arm lifts are popular and allow patients to enjoy their weight loss transformation. Typically, candidates for an arm lift:

  • Are at or close to their ideal weight
  • Have loose skin on the upper arms
  • Are in good general health

Surgical Technique

The goal of an arm lift is to result in a toned upper arm appearance. The length of the incision varies depending on how much skin and fat are to be removed. Patients who have a fairly good skin tone may only require a minor incision. However, patients who have excessively loose, hanging skin will require an incision that may run from the armpit to the elbow. At this time, the excess skin is trimmed and the underlying muscles are tightened. In some patients, the armpit will also need to be addressed and surgically tightened.

I decided to visit Dr. Khorsandi after doing some research online. After the initial consultation, I felt comfortable and confident enough with Dr Khorsandi to proceed with scheduling surgery. My surgery was to be in two, or possibly three stages. I am a 35 year old male who lost a lot of weight (naturally) about 12 years ago and have remained extremely health conscious and active ever since. Dr. Khorsandi recommended a belt lipectomy procedure in response to my areas of concern. If you know anything about this procedure, you are aware that it is very a extensive and time consuming surgery. This procedure lasted roughly 7 hours and required a few months of healing before I could resume my normal gym activity. It is now 14 months later and I'm extremely happy with everything. Scars are minimal and I couldn't imagine better results. The care and attention of Dr. Khorsandi and his staff is amazing. I had no problem getting a hold of him whether he was at his office, home or traveling (which I needed to a few times during the first few months of healing). My second area of concern was my chest (which had not retracted fully from weight loss). Dr. Khorsandi performed two procedures, the final one being two weeks ago. Again, I couldn't imagine better results. He has reshaped it and reduced areas which have lost elasticity leaving me with a chest that I never thought I'd have. Note that I'm very particular and had higher than normal expectations to begin with. I was very nervous in the beginning stages only to be relieved and happy at the end. If he can do this well on such extensive and detailed procedures as he did with mine, I can easily see why he has such excellent reviews in all other areas. Chris 2/12/15

During/After Surgery

Patients undergoing brachioplasty are put under general anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure that takes an average of 2 hours to complete. If the procedure is a part of an after weight loss surgery, which usually involves more than one body part, an overnight stay may be required. After surgery, the arm is protected with a compression garment and drain tubes may be present to avoid the risk of infection. Swelling and bruising are normal. Patients should keep the arm elevated to promote blood circulation and help with swelling. With proper care, the arm will return to normal function after several weeks.

Expected Cost

This procedure, performed alone, will cost around $8,500. It is also common to combine brachioplasty with another cosmetic surgery procedure. In this case, the costs will increase. Virtual consultations are $100 and in-person consults are $300 the consult fee goes towards the procedure they are non-refundable.
