What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

Dr. Christopher Khorsandi, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Las Vegas, NV can revise rhinoplasty results for patients who are unsatisfied with their previous surgery. The most common reasons to seek revision rhinoplasty include continued or increased breathing problems, dislodged implants or grafts, or nasal asymmetry. Revision rhinoplasty is widely recognized as one of the most complex procedures performed by a plastic surgeon. For this reason, each patient at VIP Plastic Surgery should carefully consider the risks involved and choose a skilled nose surgeon, like Dr. Khorsandi, to achieve their desired results.

What are the Benefits of Revision Rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty allows patients to correct any issues they may have had with their original surgery, whether it was performed at VIP Plastic Surgery or another practice. This includes correcting difficulty breathing, improving the shape and size of the nose, repairing asymmetry, or addressing any other lingering deformities. Dr. Khorsandi understands that each patient is unique and takes careful consideration to ensure that your results are both safe and successful.

Surgical Technique

The vast majority of revision rhinoplasty cases are performed using the open rhinoplasty approach. This method places the incision along the base of the nose. During the procedure, Dr. Khorsandi will correct any airway obstructions and reshape the sections of the nose along the nasal bridge, tip, and nostrils. If cartilage implants are required, they may be harvested from the patient’s septum, ear, or rib. At the end of the operation, several stitches or sutures will be necessary to close the incision. A protective splint will be placed over the bridge of the nose and internal support splints may be placed as well. Some patients will benefit from the closed rhinoplasty technique. This is for milder cases. In the closed method, all incisions are internal. Dr. Khorsandi will decide which method is right based on the patient’s unique case.

Met with Dr. Khorsandi to discuss a revision rhino/septoplasty with turbinate reduction. That he would consider even meeting to discuss a revision rhinoplasty was encouraging.  During the consult, the 3D images of what my nose could look like were exciting, and Dr. Khorsandi’s bedside manners were second to none.  On Christmas Eve I had my surgery, and Dr. Khorsandi came in to the office on Christmas Day for my 24 hour post-op.  I literally kept asking his staff "are you SURE I have an appointment on Christmas Day???"  His work ethic and commitment to his patients is refreshing- no big ego, just a doc that loves what he does.  I’m now 3 weeks post-op, and beyond thrilled with the results.  My nose looks incredible, I don’t look like I’ve had a "nose job", it’s completely perfect for my face.  Could.not.be.happier!!!

I had my first rhinoplasty done in Salt Lake by a doctor who ruined my appearance last October 2018, I was devastated for several months! After researching hundreds of plastic surgeons to get a revision, I finally came across Doc Vegas's Page by one of his client's review. I began to read all his reviews and his before and after photos were an answer to my prayers!! I immediately called into his office for a consultation. The first visit was phenomenal, the office staff was super helpful and friendly. When I met he doctor, I was very nervous at first but he walked in and listened to all my concerns and was very genuine and professional that everything was going to be ok. He was very confident he could fix my nose exactly how I wanted it. Nothing is worse than having the awful nightmare I had experienced with that other doctor who ruined my face, he ignored my concerns and didn't care and knew he messed up! Doc Vegas put me at ease and I finally felt reassured that everything was going to be ok. He was very kind and knowledgeable in what he thought had happened and asked to see the prior operation report. It was too early to begin the revision surgery so I had to wait a few months and boy! Those few months felt like a century!! Doc Vegas added filler in the areas my nose was missing the fullness it needed until I was ready for the revision. My revision was completed June 2019, being rolled into the surgery room was a breathe of fresh air! I knew from Day 1 I was in good hands. I came out of surgery and the doc told me everything went so well!!!! I had a revision done as well for breast augmentation. I'm so happy with the results so far! It's been 3 months today and my results are phenomenal!!! Doc Vegas is the God of Plastic Surgery. I thank God every day for guiding me to such an amazing person!!! I recommend Doc Vegas to all my friends and family and definitely YOU!! You will not regret it.

Had a great consult with Dr. Khorsandi. I need a rhinoplasty revision, (he was not my primary,) and he addressed all of my concerns himself before I said anything. He measured all of my facial dimensions and really took the time to provide me with a realistic morph and what he can do for me. He was genuinely interested in resolving this for me.

During/After Surgery

Revision rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia at an accredited outpatient surgery center. Immediately following surgery, it is important for patients to sleep with their heads elevated and keep the splint and all parts of the nose dry when showering or bathing. Prescribed medication should keep any pain under control, and bags of frozen peas can help reduce swelling. Patients will have several post-operative visits with Dr. Khorsandi. He will remove the splint and stitches and examine the nose for proper healing. Most patients are able to return to work or school within a week of surgery. Swelling around the nose may not disappear for 6 to 12 months.

Expected Cost

Patients can expect to pay, at the minimum, $14,000 for revision rhinoplasty, depending on the complexity of the correction. Complicated revisions may include the costs for augmentation or reduction, bone or cartilage grafting, and other supplementary procedures. Virtual consultations are $100 and in-person consults are $300 the consult fee goes towards the procedure they are non-refundable.

Can the Results Be Worse?

Rhinoplasty surgery is a complex procedure, which means revisions procedures are even more complicated. There is a chance revision rhinoplasty can cause worse results. It’s critical for patients to find a highly skilled surgeon, such as Dr. Khorsandi, to understand the initial surgery and be able to manipulate the internal structure of the nose and rest the misplaced elements.

Grafting Sites?

If patients require bone or cartilage grafting, the surgeon will take from other parts of the body, such as the septum, ear or ribs. However, most revision rhinoplasty cases do not require bone and tissue grafting.

Common Procedure?

Revision rhinoplasty has become a common cosmetic procedure, accounting for an average of 10% of all rhinoplasty procedures. Most patients desire minor touch ups to improve results. Major reconstruction procedures are less common.
