What is Microdermabrasion?

If you run your hands over your face, does your skin feel soft and smooth — or rough? The outer layer of skin may be covered with dead and damaged skin cells that make your complexion dull and uneven.

At VIP Plastic Surgery in Las Vegas, NV, our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher Khorsand, offers cosmetic services like noninvasive skin resurfacing with microdermabrasion. Quick and effective, these treatments use a rotating instrument to remove the surface layer of damaged skin so your complexion is brighter and healthier. This procedure can be used alone or with another procedure, like a dermal filler or chemical peel, for more dramatic improvements. During your consultation, Dr. Khorsandi will come up with a personalized treatment plan to fit your needs and complexion goals.

Can I have microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion sessions can minimize the look of surface skin blemishes like uneven texture, fine lines, dull skin tone, scars, sun damage, and clogged pores. It is safe and effective for women and men of all skin tone and type that want healthier, clearer skin. These treatments are usually performed on the face, although it can also be great for your chest, neck, and hands. This procedure should not be performed on skin that has an open wound or if you have a chronic condition, like acne or rosacea.

Procedure Technique

Microdermabrasion treatments are performed in our office after a thorough consultation to determine what services will give you your best results. For the treatment, you will lie back in a comfortable chair as your skin is prepared. The microdermabrasion tool will run along your skin as it polishes and vacuums the debris. While the treatment feels unusual, it not considered painful, so you wouldn't need a numbing cream or local anesthesia. The microdermabrasion will be applied evenly over the needed areas, with more caution on the delicate skin around the eyes. As soon as the treatment is over, the skin will be lightly cleansed to eliminate any residual debris before a moisturizer, selected for your skin type with UV protection, is applied.

What to Expect

After a microdermabrasion procedure, you can get back to your normal routine as long as you wear sunscreen or another form of sun protection since your skin will be sensitive. Your face should feel smoother and your tone will look brighter. To prolong the benefits, Dr. Khorsandi recommends scheduling these procedures every 4 – 6 weeks. Some VIP Plastic Surgery patients notice that after treatments, the skincare products they use at home (especially moisturizers) absorb more easily into their skin for better results.
